外国人ゲストを招いてのグローバルカフェ特別編として、7月1日（金）イギリス出身のアーティストKevinさんにお越しいただき、英語の説明を聞きながら写真コラージュを体験するというワークショップを行いました。参加者は医療情報、健康栄養、看護、薬、子ども教育、球探足球比分より21名の学生と教職員6名、総勢27名で、ハサミとのりを持参して臨みました。雑誌や新聞から各々の感性で切り抜いた写真や文字をB4サイズの白い紙にまず1枚貼ります。次はそれを隣の人に渡して手放しつつ、もう一方の隣から同様に白い紙が渡されます。次の1枚を張り付けて、また隣に渡し、それを何度か繰りかえして、複数人の共同作業で1枚の作品が仕上がっていきます。最後に英語でタイトルをつけて出来上がりです。一人で一つの作品を考えるのと違い、思いがけない展開になったり、他の人の発想が斬新であったりと、あちらこちらで歓声があがります。英語が聴き取れるか心配だと最初は緊張していた人も、ジョークを交えての明るいKevinさんの進行で、笑いの絶えない時間となりました。また、コラージュ作業をするために聴きとる英語は、目的があり、英語を学ぶのではなく英語で学ぶことを実感できたことでしょう。その他、学年学科の壁を超え、多くの人と共同作業できることも楽しいものです。作品を作りながらの英会話交流は今回初めての試みでしたが、「教職に就いたら子供達にも試してみたい」、「福祉施設でも応用できるかも」といった声もあり、参加者がそれぞれに学びを得る機会となったようです。準備くださったKevinさん、関係者皆さんに感謝申し上げます。

As a special edition of the Global Café with foreign guests, a workshop was held on 1 July (Fri) with artist Kevin from the UK, where participants experienced photo collage while listening to explanations in English. A total of 27 participants – 21 students (the departments of Healthcare Informatics, Health and Nutrition, Nursing, Pharmacy, Child Education and Applied Biological Sciences) and 6 staff – brought scissors and glue. The students cut out photographs and text from magazines and newspapers according to their own sensibilities and pasted them onto a sheet of B4-sized white paper. Next, they passed it on to the person next to them. The cutting of pictures , pasting and passing on to the next person was done several times,  Once finished, students gave the finished piece of collage that landed in front of them, a title in English. Rather than working on their own single piece of artwork, there was a lot of happy comments here and there as the work took unexpected turns thanks to the creativity of the group. Kevin’s cheerful delivery, mixed with jokes, kept everyone laughing, and helped everybody with any concerns about their English skills. It was a fun activity that required the participants to work together as a group, transcending the barriers of grade and department. This was the first time for us to try an English conversation exchange while creating a work of art, but we received feedback that they would like to try it with their children when they start teaching, or that it could be applied at welfare facilities, so it was a time of learning for each participant.
